CEEGreece launches €750 million plan for audiovisual production
The Greek Government has approved the five-year “Greece On Screen” Action Plan, a €750 million strategy for the development of the country’s audiovisual and creative economy from 2026 to 2030.
The plan, led by the Ministry of Culture and the Hellenic Film, Audiovisual and Creative Media Center (EKKOMED), covers the full creative production ecosystem, including film, television, animation, video games, and music festivals. It aims to strengthen funding incentives, attract international productions, support Greek creators and companies, create new jobs, and improve Greece’s global competitiveness in the audiovisual sector. The Cabinet also approved a bill to establish a new School of Film Technicians and Audiovisual Creation. The school will address the need for specialized training and skilled professionals in the sector. Culture Minister Lina Mendoni said the plan is Greece’s first fully funded, long-term national strategy for audiovisual creation. She said public investment in the sector can generate strong returns for the real economy, while also boosting culture, employment, and international visibility. Funding will include €412 million for film and audiovisual investment programs, €210 million for loan guarantees for small and medium-sized businesses, €20 million for video games and music festivals, €20 million for international promotion and cultural diplomacy, €52 million for the new school, training, innovation, and digitization, and €36 million for administrative and technical support. Key initiatives include the creation of the new film technicians’ school at the Finos Film facilities, stronger support for the Thessaloniki market as an international hub, a video game innovation center, the use of the Kokovikos house in Plaka as an audiovisual heritage space, and the “Autism and Creation” program. The plan is described as the largest support program for audiovisual creation ever designed in Greece. RELATED
