CEEAlbania lifts TikTok ban after yearlong restriction
The Albanian government has lifted a ban on TikTok that lasted nearly a year, a popular platform for creating and sharing short videos.
According to documents from the Cabinet of Ministers, the decision takes effect after a lengthy court review and regulatory procedures concerning the digital space regulator. “The National Cyber Security Agency must cooperate with other authorities to take the necessary steps to restore access to this platform," said the Albanian government’s decision Such a decision was made after a court challenge to the ban, filed by the Albanian Journalists’ Association, investigative media outlets, and a non-governmental organization, which argued that the restriction violates the constitutional right to freedom of speech. The opposition also voiced protests against the actions of Prime Minister Edi Rama, noting that this could have affected the parliamentary elections held in May last year. RELATED
